Yerba Maté
Yerba Mate or Llex paraguariensis is a type of holly native to South America. Tradtionally, yerba mate is infused in a dried gourd (mate) and sipped through a filtered straw known as a bombilla.The yellow-green infusion is herbal, grassy, and vegetal in flavor. It can be very bitter if the water used to infuse it is too hot. It does not become bitter, however, even if steeped for long periods. In fact, yerba mate can be infused several times. Flavored yerba mates are also available. Yerba mate contains caffeine and has stimulant properties similar to coffee, but is generally considered to be easier on the stomach than coffee or tea. It has gained popularity over the years for its high levels of antioxidents and other molecules of nutritional value.
